Overview

About this equipment

A tri lobe blower does the same job as a twin lobe blower, but more smoothly. Three lobes per rotor mean more, smaller pulses of air per turn, so the blower runs with less pulsation, less vibration and lower noise. Sigma Process Controls supplies tri lobe blowers for STPs near homes and hospitals, MBBR and membrane plants, and any site where quiet, steady air matters.

How a tri lobe blower works

Two rotors, each with three lobes, turn in opposite directions inside the casing, synchronised by timing gears. Air is trapped between the lobes and the casing and carried from inlet to outlet. With three lobes, the discharge pulses are smaller and closer together, giving a smoother air flow than a twin lobe design. Like all Roots blowers, it delivers oil-free air at a near-constant volume.

Key features

Low pulsation

Smoother air flow protects diffusers, membranes and pipework.

Lower noise and vibration

Better suited to residential, hospital and hotel STPs.

Oil-free air

Nothing in the air path to contaminate the process.

Steady constant-volume delivery

Even when back pressure varies.

Optional acoustic hood

For the quietest installations.

Applications

STPs in apartments, hospitals, hotels, schools and IT parks
MBBR, SBR and MBR aeration where steady air protects the media and membranes
ETP aeration in textile, food and chemical plants
Pneumatic conveying where lower pulsation reduces line wear
Oil-free process air in food and pharma plants

When to choose tri lobe over twin lobe

Choose tri lobe when the site is noise-sensitive, when the process uses membranes or fine diffusers that suffer from pulsation, or when the blower runs close to occupied buildings. For heavy industrial sites where noise is less of a concern, a twin lobe blower may be the more economical choice.

Tri lobe blowers usually cost a little more than twin lobe blowers of the same capacity. The final price depends on flow, pressure, motor and accessories. Send your duty point for a quote.
Efficiency is similar. The main advantages of tri lobe are lower pulsation and noise rather than lower power.
Usually yes, if the flow and pressure match. We check the foundation, piping and motor before recommending a swap.
