Overview

About this equipment

Moving gas is not the same as moving air. Biogas, natural gas and process gases can be flammable, corrosive or toxic, and even a small leak is a safety risk. A gas blower is built to handle these gases safely: sealed against leaks, made from suitable materials and paired with the right motor for the hazardous area. Sigma Process Controls supplies gas blowers for biogas plants, distilleries, sugar mills, CBG plants and chemical process lines across Tamil Nadu.

How a gas blower differs from an air blower

Most gas blowers are based on the Roots (rotary lobe) design, with key changes for gas duty. Shaft seals are upgraded to keep gas from escaping and air from getting in. Casing and rotor materials are chosen for the gas, which often carries moisture and hydrogen sulphide. Condensate drains, gas-tight piping connections and suitably rated motors complete the package.

What we need to size a gas blower

Gas type and composition (methane, CO₂, H₂S, moisture)
Gas flow (m³/hr)
Inlet and required outlet pressure
Gas temperature
Hazardous area classification at the installation point

Industries that use gas blowers

Biogas & Distilleries: biogas boosting from digesters to boilers, engines and flares
Chemical Industry: process gas transfer and vapour recovery
Food, Beverage & Dairy: biogas from dairy and food waste digesters
Water & Wastewater Treatment: municipal sludge digester gas

Safety and installation

Gas blowers need careful installation. We guide you on flame arrestors, condensate traps, isolation valves, pressure relief and non-return valves, and on keeping electrical equipment rated for the hazardous zone. Before handover we commission the blower and check for leaks at seals and joints.

Service, spares and AMC

Gas blowers often run round the clock. Our AMC covers seal checks, oil changes, condensate drain inspection and vibration checks, with genuine spares and priority support if the blower trips.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question?
Talk to our team about your application.
Gas blowers cost more than standard air blowers because of the special seals, materials and motors. Share your gas data and duty point for an exact quote.
No. A standard air blower is not gas-tight and may not be safe in a hazardous area. Use a blower built for gas duty.
We select corrosion-resistant materials and recommend gas cleaning (H₂S scrubbing) upstream where the concentration is high.
