Ring blowers are compact and easy to mount. Even so, poor piping and a weak base cause most of the problems we are called in to fix.
Foundation and mounting
- Mount on a level, rigid base that does not resonate
- Use the anti-vibration pads supplied with the unit
- Leave space around the motor fan cover for cooling air
- Keep the blower out of direct rain and sun, or fit a canopy
Piping
Use pipe the same size as the blower ports or larger. Smaller pipe adds pressure drop and pushes the blower towards its limit.
- Keep runs short and use long-radius bends
- Fit flexible connectors at the inlet and outlet
- Support the pipe so its weight does not sit on the blower
- Fit an inlet filter on pressure duty and an inline filter on vacuum duty
Safety devices
A ring blower should never run against a closed valve. Fit a pressure relief valve on pressure duty, or a vacuum relief valve on vacuum duty, set below the blower’s maximum differential.
Rule of thumb
If the motor trips on overload after installation, check the pressure drop in the piping before blaming the blower.
Before the first start
- Check the direction of rotation
- Make sure all valves are open
- Measure current and pressure, and keep them as baseline values
Conclusion
Send us your layout drawing and our team will suggest pipe sizes and accessories before installation.
