About this equipment

Raw sewage and effluent carry rags, solids, fibres and grit that choke ordinary pumps. A submersible sewage pump sits right in the sump, under the liquid, and is built to pass those solids without clogging. How a submersible sewage pump works

The pump and a sealed, watertight motor form one unit that is lowered into the sump. Liquid enters through the bottom and is thrown out by a solids-handling impeller, such as a vortex, channel or cutter type, into the discharge pipe. Because the pump is submerged, it is self-priming, quiet and needs no separate pump house. Most installations use a guide rail and auto-coupling so the pump can be lifted out without entering the sump.
